THE DIARY OF SAMUEL PEPYS

This interesting story is highlighted by two important values that are shown through out the rest of the story.  The definition of these two values should be left clear before getting to the point and these two important values that makes part of some of the characters traits would be, thankfulness and trustworthiness.
The definition of the important word “thankfulness”, or gratefulness, is a feeling of appreciation or  a similar positive response shown by the recipient of kindness, gifts, help, favors, or other types of generosity towards the giver. Now when we talk about “truthfulness”, we are talking about honesty. It’s a moral character of a human being, related to telling the truth. In other words, it is the ability to be relied on as truthful.
As the story begins, none of the two values mentioned before were highlighted, but as it goes on, we can see an act of trustworthiness when the fire starts happening in their city and starts burning some people’s houses down, and the people living there help each other out while they still can. They showed trust in each other and depended one on another. One thing is that Pepys just stood there and watched the fire happen from his window, he didn’t do anything about it since he believes he has very high standards. I don’t think Pepys is a character you can trust, maybe as a narrator since he writes all of the events in his diary but not as a person. What he did was an act of zero empathy towards his neighbourhood. Now Pepys shows an aft of thankfulness towards his very nice wife who loves him deeply. He thanks her for serving him the meal that she had prepared that evening, and that act shows thankfulness, he may be thankful for the meal but not for his wife, since he cheated on her with another woman. How can that act show thankfulness to his wife. Those were the two values i saw in the story and in different parts of the story and different characters as well.It was an act of empathy and compassion to help each other like that as well.
